What is a good girth?

Short answer

A good girth is right around the average of 11.66 cm (4.59 in) erect — and anything from there up is comfortably normal; a 12.7 cm (5 in) girth already sits near the 83rd percentile, putting it in the thick range.

A “good” girth starts at the average and climbs gently from there. The clinician-measured mean erect girth is 11.66 cm (4.59 in), so sitting at or near that number is solidly normal — and you don’t have to go far above it to count as thick. By 12.7 cm (5 in) you’re already around the 83rd percentile, wider than four men in five.

The numbers come from Veale et al. (2015, BJU International), which pooled measurements from 15,521 men taken by clinicians rather than self-reported tape jobs. The same dataset puts average erect length at 13.12 cm (5.16 in), a useful anchor because girth is the dimension people more often forget to think about — yet it tends to register at least as much as length, since a snug fit is mostly a question of circumference.

Notice how compressed the scale is: a single centimeter of circumference moves you from average to the top fifth of men. There’s no exotic “ideal” hiding above that; the band between typical and thick is narrow, and most men are already inside it.
